Ludhiana is the most populous city in the Indian state of Punjab, with an estimated population of about 1.62 million as of the 2011 census, spread over 310 square kilometers. Known as the Manchester of India for its textile and hosiery industry, Ludhiana is also a major center for bicycle and machine-tool manufacturing, making it one of Punjab's leading industrial and commercial hubs.
