Mahalapye

Mahalapye is a town in the Central District of Botswana, on the main road between the capital Gaborone and the country's second most populous city, Francistown, and notable for sitting on the Tropic of Capricorn. The 2012 census recorded about 41,316 inhabitants, ranking it among Botswana's fifty largest settlements, and the town lies on the edge of the Kalahari desert, with dry local waterways except during the rainy season and recorded temperature extremes from 41.9 to minus 6.0 degrees Celsius. It functions as a transit hub with a bus station, a railway station, hotels and a market area, and the Botswana Prison Service operates a correctional facility there; the town is the birthplace of the actor and playwright Donald Molosi and of Duma Boko, president of Botswana.
