City
Marion (ancient city)
Western Asia
Marion was one of the ten ancient city kingdoms of Cyprus, situated in the northwest of the island in the Akamas region, close to or beneath the present day town of Polis. Mentioned by the geographers Strabo and Pliny the Elder and identified as a Greek city by the Periplus of Pseudo-Scylax, it flourished as a commercial and military center through the Iron Age and Cypro-Classical period before being destroyed by Ptolemy in 312 BC and later refounded nearby as Arsinoe around 270 BC.
