Masvingo, formerly known as Fort Victoria, is a city in southeastern Zimbabwe and the capital of Masvingo Province. It lies close to Great Zimbabwe, the national monument the country is named for, and near Lake Mutirikwi, the Kyle dam and the Kyle National Reserve, home to a range of animal species. Most of its population belongs to the Karanga people, the largest branch of Zimbabwe's Shona peoples.
