Mocamedes is a city in southwestern Angola and the capital of Namibe Province, with a population of 345,987. Founded in 1840 by the Portuguese colonial administration, the city was known as Namibe between 1985 and 2016, and its cool, dry climate and desert vegetation reflect its location near the Namib Desert.
