Moshi is a municipality in northeastern Tanzania and the capital of Kilimanjaro Region, situated on the lower slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro, the dormant volcano that is Africa's highest mountain. Its population was recorded at 221,733 in the 2022 census. The town's name is said to come from the smoke that appears to rise from the nearby mountain. Covering only about 59 square kilometers, Moshi is the smallest municipality in Tanzania by area.
