Moundou is the second largest city in Chad and capital of the Logone Occidental Region, on the Mbere River about 475 kilometres south of the capital N'Djamena. Established in 1923 by French administrator Joseph-Francois Reste, it had a population of 137,929 at the 2012 census and serves as an industrial hub with cotton processing, petroleum operations and the Gala Brewery, maker of Chad's most popular beer.
