Nador

Nador is a coastal city in the Rif region of northeastern Morocco and capital of Nador Province, about 10 kilometers south of the Spanish enclave of Melilla and 75 kilometers from the Algerian border, with a population of approximately 158,202 as of 2024, making it the 19th-largest city in Morocco. Founded in the nineteenth century by local Berber tribes, it remained under Spanish occupation from 1912 until Moroccan independence in 1956, and it is known today as the largest Tarifit-speaking city in the world, reflecting its strong Amazigh heritage. Its economy centers on fishing, agriculture and light and heavy industry, with Nador Port ranking among the Mediterranean's major fishing ports, alongside growing tourism from European visitors and the diaspora.
