Naivasha is a town in Nakuru County, Kenya, about 93 kilometers northwest of Nairobi, on the shores of Lake Naivasha from which it takes its name. The town's population grew roughly seventeenfold from 1969 to reach 355,383 at the 2019 census. The name Naivasha comes from the Maasai word enaiposha, meaning water that heaves with waves, a term for a body of water large enough to develop whitecaps in the wind; the English name is a colonial era approximation of the Maasai pronunciation.
