Navoi is a district-level city in central Uzbekistan and capital of Navoi Region, established in 1958 near the historic settlement of Karmana and named for the 15th-century poet and statesman Alisher Navoi. Its population stood at 171,496 as of 2026, and the region holds substantial natural gas reserves and gold deposits, with NavoiyAzot serving as the country's largest producer of mineral fertilizers. A free industrial economic zone offers tax exemptions to foreign investors, and the surrounding area sits on the ancient Silk Road with archaeological remains of Saki, Khorezm and Bactrian cultures.
