Nhlangano is the fourth largest town in Eswatini and the capital of the southern Shiselweni district, sitting beside the Ngwavuma River at an elevation of about 1,050 meters. Originally called Goedgegun, it was renamed Nhlangano, meaning the meeting place in the Swazi language, and 2005 data recorded 9,016 residents. In 1947 King George VI of the United Kingdom met King Sobhuza there to thank him for Eswatini's war effort during the Second World War, and the town today hosts a health centre, a prison, a casino and an SOS Children's Village.
