Potenza is a city and comune in the region of Basilicata in southern Italy, capital of both the Province of Potenza and of Basilicata itself. Overlooking the valley of the Basento river in the Apennine Mountains of Lucania east of Salerno, it is the highest regional capital and one of the highest provincial capitals in Italy, and with a population of 63,403 as of 2026 is also the largest city in Basilicata.
