Qarshi is a city in southern Uzbekistan and the capital of Qashqadaryo Region, with a population of 278,300. It lies about 520 kilometers south-southwest of Tashkent and roughly 335 kilometers north of the border Uzbekistan shares with Afghanistan. The city is a center of natural gas production and is also known for its production of woven flat carpets.
