Santo Domingo de Guzmán is the capital and largest city of the Dominican Republic, and the largest metropolitan area in the Caribbean by population. Founded by Bartholomew Columbus on 5 August 1496, it is the country's cultural, financial, political, commercial and industrial center, with a population of 1,029,110 as of November 2022.
