Soyo is a city and municipality in Zaire Province, Angola, situated at the mouth of the Congo River, with a city population of 200,920 and a municipal population of 221,555. It was historically significant in conflicts among the Kingdom of Kongo, Portuguese Angola, and the Dutch West India Company, having become an independent state in the 17th century with notable influence on Kongo politics during the Kongo Civil War.
