Tanga is a historic city and the capital of both the Tanga Region and Tanga District in Tanzania, located in the country's northern port area on the Indian Ocean at Tanga Bay. It had a population of 393,429 in 2022, is governed by the Tanga City Council, and is home to the Port of Tanga; its name means sail in Swahili.
