Tema is a port city on the Bight of Benin, on Ghana's Atlantic coast about 25 kilometres east of the capital Accra in the Greater Accra Region, and serves as capital of the Tema Metropolitan District. Ghana's largest seaport and known locally as Harbour City, it is built as 25 numbered communities and lies directly on the Greenwich Meridian; its population was 161,612 at 2013 estimates, down from about 209,000 in 2005.
