Uige, formerly known as Carmona, is the capital of Uige Province in northwestern Angola, with a city population of 636,253 and a municipal population of 773,099. It grew from a small market center in 1945 to attain city status in 1956, and it is served by Uige Airport, which offers daily flights to Luanda.
