Umuahia

Umuahia is the capital city of Abia State in southeastern Nigeria, located on the rail line between Port Harcourt to its south and Enugu to its north. Its population was 359,230 at the 2006 census. The city is a railway and agricultural market center attracting traders and farmers who sell yams, cassava, corn, taro, citrus fruits and palm produce, and its economy includes a brewery and a palm-oil-processing plant. Nigeria's National Root Crops Research Institute and the Michael Okpara University of Agriculture both sit adjacent to the city at Umudike, and Umuahia comprises the Umuahia North and Umuahia South local government areas.
