Yamoussoukro is the capital city of Cote d'Ivoire, 240 kilometres northwest of Abidjan. Designated the political and administrative capital in 1983 by President Felix Houphouet-Boigny, whose birthplace it was, it remains the country's third most populous city, while Abidjan continues as the economic capital.
