Jamaica is an island country in the Caribbean, the third-largest island in the Greater Antilles after Cuba and Hispaniola, with no land borders and lying south of Cuba and west of Hispaniola. It gained independence from the United Kingdom on 6 August 1962. It is a parliamentary democracy and Commonwealth realm. Its capital is Kingston.
