Liechtenstein was never a colony. The principality formed by the 1719 union of Vaduz and Schellenberg; it became a fully sovereign state in 1806 when it joined the Confederation of the Rhine, no longer subject to the Holy Roman Empire, and its final tie to the German Confederation ended in 1866.
