Palau is an island country located in the Micronesia sub-region of Oceania in the western Pacific Ocean, consisting of approximately 340 islands forming the western part of the Caroline Islands. Its UN trusteeship ended under a Compact of Free Association with the United States, effective 1 October 1994. Its capital is Ngerulmud.
