Singapore, officially the Republic of Singapore, is an island city-state in Southeast Asia comprising a main island, over 60 satellite islands, and one outlying islet, near the southern tip of the Malay Peninsula. It became fully independent on 9 August 1965 upon separation from Malaysia. It is a major aviation, financial and maritime hub with no separate capital, the city of Singapore itself serving as the seat of government.
