Trinidad and Tobago is the southernmost archipelagic country in the Caribbean, lying about six nautical miles off the northeastern coast of Venezuela, with no land borders. It gained independence from the United Kingdom on 31 August 1962. It is a unitary parliamentary republic. Its capital is Port of Spain.
