Lake Chad

Lake Chad is a shallow endorheic freshwater lake at the junction of Chad, Niger, Nigeria and Cameroon in west-central Africa, and the country of Chad takes its name from it. The lake shrank drastically from about 25,000 square kilometers in 1960 to roughly 2,000 square kilometers by 1980, and its open water area has stabilized at a similarly reduced extent since, though it remains threatened by continued climate pressure.
