The Altiplano, also called the Collao or Andean Plateau, is a high plateau in west-central South America, located at the latitude of the widest part of the north-south-trending Andes. It is the most extensive high plateau on Earth outside Tibet, with the bulk of its area lying in Bolivia and its northern parts in Peru, southwestern fringes in Chile, and an extension into Argentina.
