The Amazon rainforest, also called the Amazon jungle or Amazonia, is a moist broadleaf tropical rainforest covering most of the Amazon basin of South America. The basin spans about 7 million square kilometers, of which roughly 6 million square kilometers are covered by rainforest, and the region includes territory belonging to nine nations along with 3,344 indigenous territories.
