The Balkan Peninsula is a large peninsula in southeastern Europe bounded by the Adriatic Sea to the west, the Mediterranean, Ionian, Aegean and Marmara seas to the south, and the Black Sea to the east. Its northern boundary is disputed but is often drawn along the Danube, Sava and Kupa rivers, and it covers a combined area of about 470,000 square kilometers. Its highest point is Musala in Bulgaria, at 2,925 meters.
