A cool, high-elevation tropical forest that is persistently or seasonally shrouded in low-lying cloud and mist, its trees typically laden with mosses, ferns and other epiphytic plants that draw much of their moisture directly from the humid air rather than from rainfall alone. Cloud forests occur on tropical mountain slopes at the altitude where rising, cooling air routinely condenses into cloud around the vegetation.
