Colca Canyon

Colca Canyon is a deep canyon carved by the Colca River in southern Peru, one of the deepest canyons in the world, roughly twice the depth of the Grand Canyon in the United States at its deepest points. The canyon's terraced slopes have been farmed since pre-Inca times, and its skies are home to one of the largest populations of Andean condors, drawing visitors to a well-known viewpoint where the birds can be seen riding thermal air currents rising from the canyon walls. Traditional villages along the canyon's rim retain distinct Collagua and Cabana cultural identities.
