Cotopaxi is an active stratovolcano in the Andes Mountains of Ecuador, located within Cotopaxi National Park about 50 kilometers south of Quito and 31 kilometers northeast of Latacunga. Reaching a height of 5,897 meters, it is the second-highest summit in Ecuador and ranks among the highest active volcanoes anywhere in the world.
