Aberdare National Park

Aberdare National Park protects the Aberdare mountain range in central Kenya, spanning Nyandarua and Nyeri counties about 100 kilometers north of Nairobi, established in May 1950 and covering about 767 square kilometers. Its terrain rises from 2,000 to 4,000 meters, cut by deep v-shaped valleys, streams and waterfalls beneath moorland, bamboo forest and lower rainforest. The park is home to more than 250 bird species and mammals including lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, bongo and a population of eastern black rhinoceros, and is where Princess Elizabeth was staying at Treetops Hotel in 1952 when she became Queen Elizabeth II.
