Andasibe-Mantadia National Park, about 150 kilometers from Madagascar's capital, combines two protected sections, Mantadia National Park and the Analamazoatra Reserve, established in 1989 to protect roughly 155 square kilometers of primary rainforest between 800 and 1,260 meters elevation under an annual rainfall near 1,700 millimeters. It shelters 11 lemur species, many endemic and endangered, and is best known as the home of the indri, Madagascar's largest living lemur; since 2006 a reintroduction program has relocated endangered lemur populations into the reserve as surrounding forest outside the park has been lost to logging and agriculture. In 2025 the park was designated a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve in recognition of its ecological importance.
