Babia Gora National Park

Babia Gora National Park protects the Babia Gora massif on the border between Poland and Slovakia in the Western Beskid Mountains, part of the Carpathians. The massif's summit, Diablak, rises to 1,725 meters, the highest peak in this part of the Carpathians. The Polish national park was established in 1954, initially covering 17.04 square kilometers before an enlargement in 1997 brought it to 33.92 square kilometers, including a strict protection zone of 10.62 square kilometers and a buffer zone of 84.37 square kilometers. A nature reserve had already protected part of the Polish side since 1933. In 1976 the area was designated a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.
