Banc d'Arguin National Park

Banc d'Arguin National Park lies on the west coast of Mauritania in West Africa, between Nouakchott and Nouadhibou, at the former mouth of the Tamanrasset River, and is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The park is one of the world's most important sites for migratory and breeding birds, including large populations of flamingo, pelican and tern, much of it nesting on sand banks and islands such as Tidra, Niroumi, Nair, Kijji and Arguim. The waters surrounding the park are among the richest fishing grounds in West Africa, and they serve as nesting and nursery grounds supporting fish stocks across the wider region.
