Cabañeros National Park

Cabañeros National Park lies in the Montes de Toledo, spanning parts of Ciudad Real and Toledo provinces in Spain across five municipalities including Navas de Estena and Alcoba de los Montes. Designated in 1995, it covers about 390 square kilometers and protects the best and largest surviving stretch of Iberian Mediterranean forest, along with traditional dehesa pastureland between the Estena and Bullaque rivers and the Chorito and Miraflores mountain ranges. The park supports 276 species of vertebrates and preserves Paleozoic fossils more than 400 million years old, and it is a Special Protection Area for birds that provides habitat for the critically endangered Iberian lynx, which conservation projects are working to reestablish there. It receives about 75,000 visitors a year.
