Camdeboo National Park

Camdeboo National Park almost entirely surrounds the town of Graaff-Reinet in South Africa's Eastern Cape and was proclaimed a national park on 30 October 2005, building on the Karoo Nature Reserve first established there on 22 July 1983 from land donated by the World Wide Fund for Nature. Covering about 194 square kilometers of the Karoo biome on the southern foothills of the Sneeuberg range, with elevations between 740 and 1,480 meters, the park is best known for the Valley of Desolation, a dramatic formation of towering dolerite rock pillars. It also encompasses the Nqweba Dam within its semi-arid shrubland habitat.
