Connemara National Park

Connemara National Park is one of eight national parks in Ireland, in northwest Connemara in County Galway on the west coast of the country, with its entrance near Letterfrack. It opened to the public in 1980 and covers about 2,000 hectares of mountains, bogs, heaths, grasslands and forests, rising to its highest peak at Benbaun, 729 meters. The park holds megalithic court tombs around 4,000 years old and a nineteenth century graveyard, and its blanket bog and heathland support birds such as meadow pipits, kestrels and merlin falcons, along with mammals including red deer, foxes, badgers and the native Connemara pony. It is managed by the National Parks and Wildlife Service of Ireland.
