Daintree National Park

Daintree National Park lies in Far North Queensland, Australia, about 100 kilometers northwest of Cairns. Established in 1981, it covers about 1,200 square kilometers and protects part of the Greater Daintree Rainforest, believed to have existed continuously for more than 110 million years and possibly the oldest existing rainforest on Earth. The park is valued for its exceptional biodiversity and habitat for rare species and abundant birdlife, became part of a World Heritage Site in 1988, and in 2021 the eastern Kuku Yalanji people gained formal ownership of much of the park through a historic agreement with the Queensland government.
