Dinosaur National Monument is a United States national monument on the southeastern flank of the Uinta Mountains, straddling the border between Colorado and Utah at the confluence of the Green and Yampa rivers. Most of its area lies in Colorado's Moffat County, but the monument's namesake feature, a quarry containing one of the densest known concentrations of Jurassic dinosaur fossils, sits on the Utah side near Jensen, with the town of Vernal, Utah the nearest significant community. Beyond the fossil quarry, the monument protects a rugged canyon landscape along the two rivers that has made it a significant site for whitewater rafting as well as paleontology.
