Dovrefjell-Sunndalsfjella National Park spans Innlandet, Trondelag and More og Romsdal counties in Norway, established on 3 May 2002 as a larger successor to the original 1974 Dovrefjell National Park. Its 1,693 square kilometers of the Dovrefjell and Sunndalsfjella mountain ranges rise to Snohetta at 2,286 meters and protect a largely untouched mountain landscape that shelters wild reindeer, wolverines, musk oxen introduced in 1947, and birds of prey such as golden eagles and gyrfalcons, along with plant life dating from before the last ice age. Eight adjacent landscape protection areas and two biotope reserves extend the wider protected complex to 4,366 square kilometers, managed jointly with eight municipalities and four counties.
