Folgefonna National Park

Folgefonna National Park lies on the Folgefonna peninsula in Vestland county, Norway, across the municipalities of Kvinnherad, Etne and Ullensvang. Established on 29 April 2005 and formally opened by Queen Sonja that May, the 545.2 square kilometer park is centered on three glaciers, Nordre, Midtre and Sondre Folgefonna, which together form Norway's third-largest ice cap at 168 square kilometers with ice up to 400 meters thick and a high point of 1,662 meters. One of Norway's wettest regions, receiving about 5,500 millimeters of precipitation a year, it nonetheless supports ptarmigan, golden eagles, red deer and the rare white-backed woodpecker alongside hardy alpine plants.
