Gauja National Park, in the Vidzeme region, is the largest national park in Latvia, covering 917.86 square kilometers along the valley of the Gauja river, from which it takes its name, running from northeast of Sigulda to southwest of Cesis. It was established to protect slightly disturbed natural areas, promote nature tourism and ensure sustainable development, and is known for its high biological diversity, rock outcrops, varied terrain, springs and many historical and cultural monuments spanning several centuries. Its administration is based in Sigulda.
