Golestan National Park, in northeastern Iran, protects part of the Hyrcanian forests across roughly 919 square kilometers spanning the provinces of Golestan, North Khorasan and Semnan, with elevations ranging from 450 to 2,411 meters. It preserves deciduous forest, grassland, shrubland and rocky terrain, functioning as a biosphere reserve that shelters large carnivores such as leopards and brown bears alongside ungulates including Caspian red deer and wild goats. The park's Hyrcanian forest ecosystem was recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2019 for its ecological significance.
