Grassland National Park

Grassland National Park lies in the Eastern Cape Highlands of South Africa, on the border with Lesotho along the Witteberg mountain range, and was established on 17 October 2025 through a partnership between South African National Parks and the World Wide Fund for Nature South Africa. Created to protect under-protected grassveld vegetation, the park currently covers about 102 square kilometers, drawn from roughly 10,000 hectares of privately held land brought in through voluntary stewardship agreements, with plans to grow to about 30,000 hectares by incorporating further private and communal land. It is one of South Africa's newest national parks and reflects a strategy of formally protecting the country's grasslands, a nationally identified conservation priority.
