Iguacu National Park is a national park in Parana State, Brazil, created by federal decree on January 10, 1939, to protect the Brazilian side of the Iguazu Falls and the subtropical Atlantic Forest surrounding them. Together with its Argentine counterpart across the river, Iguazu National Park, it forms one of the largest remaining tracts of Atlantic Forest and shelters jaguar, tapir and harpy eagle populations. It was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1986, and was listed as World Heritage in Danger between 1999 and 2001 due to deforestation and poaching pressure before recovering its full standing.
