Jim Corbett National Park is a national park in the Nainital district of Uttarakhand, India, established in 1936 as Hailey National Park, making it India's first national park and one of the earliest in Asia. Renamed in 1957 in honor of the hunter-turned-conservationist Jim Corbett, whose writing and advocacy helped inspire its creation, the park protects a landscape of sal forest, grassland and riverine habitat along the Ramganga River in the Himalayan foothills. It became the founding site of Project Tiger, India's national tiger conservation program launched in 1973, and it remains one of the country's most significant tiger reserves.
