Kaieteur National Park

Kaieteur National Park, established in 1929 and expanded from five to 242 square miles in 1999, is Guyana's only national park and protects part of the Guianan moist forests ecoregion in the remote Potaro-Siparuni Region. Its centerpiece is Kaieteur Falls, the largest single-drop waterfall on Earth by volume of water, and the park is also home to the golden rocket frog, a species found nowhere else, which breeds exclusively inside specific bromeliad plants. The park protects both ecological and cultural heritage, sustaining Amerindian communities that have lived in the surrounding forest for centuries.
