Karkonosze National Park, called in Polish Karkonoski Park Narodowy, protects part of the Karkonosze range of the Sudetes mountains in the Lower Silesian Voivodeship of southwestern Poland, along the Czech border. Established in 1959, it covers about 56 square kilometers, with roughly a third of that strictly protected, near the towns of Karpacz and Jelenia Gora. In 1992 it was joined with the adjoining Czech park to form a transboundary UNESCO biosphere reserve.
